How do I apply?

You will need to fill in a planning application form. Gypsy and Traveller sites are almost always ‘applications for full planning permission’. The forms can be viewed on the LPA's website or on the Planning Portal (a Guide to the Fees for Planning Applications in England).  Most applications are submitted electronically via the Planning Portal or through the LPA’s website.

You will need a set of plans showing the site’s location, the layout of the site both existing and proposed, and plans of any dayrooms. In most cases, you do not need to provide elevations of mobile homes and touring caravans.

You will need to provide an ecology report that demonstrates how the site will achieve biodiversity net gain. This means a report that looks at any wildlife and plants / trees (biodiversity) on the site, and then works out how there can be more or better-quality natural habitat than there was before development. This can be achieved though measures such as planting or creating habitats (areas) for specific wildlife.

It is also advisable to provide a planning statement that sets out how the application will meet the relevant development plan policy or the material considerations in support.

Finally, depending on the site you may need to provide other expert reports such as a highways assessment, flood risk assessment or heritage impact assessment.
